New Uniforms Ordered
Happy New Year Everyone! I wanted to share with you some GREAT NEWS.
We've mailed the check to pay for the new marching band uniforms. This is a HUGE ACCOMPLISHMENT FOR THE BAND PROGRAM. I want to take time to thank everyone who supported the fundraiser. Whether you worked at the site, did pick ups, donated food or drinks or invited your friends and neighbors to bring scrap, THANK YOU!!!
I especially want to thank the SCRAP METAL TEAM. Without them giving of their time and talent we would not have been this successful: DAVE BAKER, CHUCK BAKER, LARRY SCHNEIDER, CAROL & PAT REWIAKO, JEFF SHANE, KATHY BAKER AND ALICIA CURTISS. ALSO A SPECIAL THANKS TO MR. THOMPSON AND MR CAMPBELL, COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHO REALLY WENT THE EXTRA MILE TO HELP OUT OUR BAND.
I want all of you to know the amazing task we have completed and what this means going forward.
In total we have funded $21,620 towards new uniforms and the weather parkas. This is only marching uniforms, Ms. Kelsey is looking at color guard uniform possibilities.
We still will be doing fundraising for the uniform fund. The uniform fund is not just for marching uniforms. We still have color guard uniforms to buy, and of course there will be other expenses for marching/color guard uniforms. We also need to update our concert uniforms so we can fit the entire band; we fell short in skirts this year. Plus there are other expenses for uniform maintenance that we will need to support. We have made a commitment to the school board that we will maintain a growing uniform fund to support the next generation of band members' need for new uniforms.
I am looking forward to working with all of you in 2014.
All-School Party Jan. 10 - Help Needed 01/03/2014
We have the All School Party at the High School coming up VERY soon! It is on January 10th from 7:00-10:00 pm. That is the Friday of the first week back at school.
We are looking for Middle School or High School families that are able to chaperone the party during these times. We need 10 parents or grandparents to help with this. This is a great way for our middle school families to get to know the band program and help out!
We also need donations of 2 liters of as follows:
24 Mountain Dew
6 Root Beer

Cost for Chicago Trip 12/16/2013
The Band Booster meeting held on January 11th was focused on the budget and the MidWest Clinic Invitation in Chicago on December 17th/18th. First we took a look at the line item budget and then talked about how much more the boosters could afford to do in support. At the meeting in October the Band Boosters committed to paying $2,000 towards the trip. After a bit of discussion it was decided that the Band Boosters would be able to afford an additional $1,100.
Here is the break down of the cost:
Two Buses - $3,442.00
+ Hotel - $2,257.20
+ Gratuity for drivers - $150
= TOTAL COST - $5,849.20
- Boosters Support - $3,100
= NET TOTAL COST - $2,749.20
We have 65 students/chaperones attending, so that comes to a cost of $42.30 per person. We rounded up to $45.00 per person to attend. Two meals will be covered with the funds raised from the bake sales.
So if you have paid your $10.00 deposit that Ms. Kelsey collected earlier, then you only need to pay $35.00 by Monday for your student. If you want to use your student account (funds for these accounts come from working the pop can drive, coupon book sales and scrip) to pay this, please send an email to www.williamstonbandboosters.com and Kathy Baker will take care of it.
I am excited for Ms. Kelsey and the entire WHS Band for this special invitation. I can't wait to have some feedback from the students about the experience.
Vicki Schneider - President Add Comment Packing for Chicago Trip 12/14/2013
For the Chicago trip students should plan to use their garment bags for packing their concert uniform.
We have found that we are short garment bags and do not have enough for everyone. If anyone who is not going on the trip would be willing to bring theirs in we would appreciate it.
The other solution is that I told the female students who do not have a garment bag to plan to share one with someone that they are rooming with. Or if you have another type of garment bag at home that would be fine as well.
Please make sure the bags are labeled with student names.

The 6th-12th grade Holiday Band Concert is
Monday, December 16, 2013
7:30 pm- HS New Gym
This concert will feature performances by the 6th, 7th, 8th, and high school bands. The high school jazz band will be performing pre-concert music from 7:00-7:30 pm in the gym.
Williamston Band Alumni are invited to join the high school band when they perform Sleigh Ride...spread the word!
We could use parent/student help with set-up for the concert at 5:30 pm.
High School Students
Symphony Band members should report at 7:00 pm. Students who are in the Symphony Band will be wearing their Concert Black uniforms for this performance.
Jazz Band Students
Jazz Band members should report at 6:40 pm to get set up. Jazz Band members who are not in the Symphony Band should plan to wear "jazz band black."
Boys: Plain black dress pants, plain black button down dress shirt, black dress shoes, and black socks. Boys must also purchase a uniform green tie from the band department. The cost is $10.00. Make checks payable to the Williamston Band Boosters.
Girls: Plain black dress pants/skirt, plain black shirt, black dress shoes and black socks.

Middle School Students
6th-8th grade students should meet in the HS Band Room at 7:15 pm with their instrument, music and optional stand. (No case!)
*Percussionists should set up equipment right away in the gym*
The concert will be a combined concert with the 6th, 7th, 8th, and high school bands, so students should plan to stay for the entire event. Students should wear *school appropriate* outfits to the concert, with a plain white shirt and black pants and black shoes/socks. Please no jeans, exercise pants or tennis shoes. Students are allowed to wear ties, holiday hats and decorate their instruments for this concert. Questions: Please contact Mrs. Rosin at email@example.com
Add Comment Turn in Marching Band Uniforms by Dec. 13 12/04/2013
As we did not have a chance to turn in our marching uniforms after a performance at the end of the season, we now need to collect them on an individual basis.
Please bring all uniform parts to the high school band room by Friday, December 13th. Students should plan to label their jacket and pants with their name. All parts including suspenders, hats, and hat boxes need to be turned in. Students should plan to keep their black marching shoes and any gloves that they purchased.

Thanks. Lynn Kelsey Add Comment Winter Drumline Rehearsal for 8-12 Grade Starts Dec. 4 12/04/2013
We are starting a Winter Drumline for any interested 8th grade or high school band member. This group will rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 8:30 pm in the high school band room. Cody Fry, one of our high school drumline instructors, will be running these rehearsals.
Our first rehearsal is tonight, Wednesday, December 4th. Students should plan to enter the high school at the main entrance and then take a left down the hall to the band room. These rehearsals will focus on developing musicianship and technique for marching snare drum, tenor drum, bass drum and crash cymbals. Although this is mainly for percussion students, any band member who is interested may participate. Students should plan to bring drumsticks to the rehearsals.

The Williamston Light Parade is this coming Saturday, December 7th, at 6:00 pm. This is a required performance for the high school band members. The high school band does not wear uniforms for this event. Students should plan to dress in warm and festive winter clothes. Decorating their instrument with lights is highly encouraged.
4:00 pm: High School Band room open for decorating of instruments
4:30 pm: Rehearsal at the HS band room
5:30 pm: Bus departs to take the band to the start of the parade route
6:00 pm: Parade starts
We will have one bus that will wait for us at the end of the parade route. Students may choose to watch the rest of the parade and find their own ride home or ride the bus back to the high school. As soon as we are done with the parade students are free to go. Students who find their own ride home should plan to take their instrument home with them over the weekend and then bring them to school on Monday.

I know that there has been a lot of confusion over the Scrip program. We will be having set order days on the 1st and 15th of each month of most months. You can place your order online and send a check to school with your child. Please make sure that it is labeled Scrip so that we send it in the right direction. We will not be able to give you your cards until we receive payment. I am also always willing to meet up with parents who want to connect in person.
That being said... In December we will be putting in orders on the 2nd and the 15th. The slight delay is due to school being off Friday and parents not having the opportunity to get their orders in. You can shop with leisure from home today, tomorrow and Monday and send the check to school on Monday or Tuesday. This is a great time to order cards to have on hand for Christmas gifts and to shop for those who are a little harder to shop for.

You can also register for Prestopay, which can make the whole process even easier for you! This information can also be shared with friends and family who are willing to have you pick up their cards or meet up with me as well.
