The Taste of Williamston is being held on Thursday September 20th at the D&G Equipment Showroom. The high school jazz band will be performing at this as we have for the past few years. Even though we haven't officially started jazz band for the year we are going to have a few rehearsals this week and a few next week to prepare for this event. This performance will be a volunteer group for anyone that can make it on the 20th. We will "recycle" some pieces that we have played in the last couple of years. The schedule for the 20th is to perform from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. The students will eat after they are done playing. This year the Rotary is going to provide pizza, pop and cookies for the students. We will need to give them an exact number of participants later in the week so they may plan accordingly.
Parents who would like to attend this event have the following options: 1) Purchase a regular priced ticket and enjoy "The Taste of Williamston" - please consider supporting this worthwhile fundraiser. 2) Join the students at 6:30 pm for a pizza dinner. A optional donation of $5.00 is suggested to help cover the cost of the meal for the parents. Student meals will be covered for free. The Williamston Sunrise Rotary donates a generous amount to the Band Boosters as a way of showing appreciation to the students for giving of their time on this evening. The "Taste of Williamston" is a major annual fundraiser for the group. The dollars that the Rotary raises in selling tickets to this event and from the auction are shared with the Weekend Survival Kit program. This program provides weekend food kits for children who might otherwise go hungry. Rotary also uses funds raised, to give back to the community and the schools. There is an impressive list of projects that have benefited from Rotary funding. We as the band, appreciate the funds that they give to us. Crash cymbals are a staple in the percussion section. They add color and energy to the band. Our crash cymbals right now have cracks in them. When cymbals have cracks in them, they do not resonate very well and they have a very thin sound.
When we are on the marching field, cymbals add flare, crispness, and color to the sound of the band. When we are in the concert hall, cymbals are all about the emotion of the piece. Thank you so much for your help and support for our classroom! Music is such a great way for students to grow! Donate HERE Our first Band Booster Board Meeting of the 2018-2019 school year is now set! We will be meeting Wednesday September 12th at 6-7:15pm in the High School Band Room. To help streamline our meetings the chairperson for each group will present progress and details. We will them move on as the meeting is for the general group. If you want to help and do more for a specific group, then the chairperson will have opportunities for involvement.
Please consider coming so we can continue to help our band program. The agenda for the meeting will be sent out Monday or Tuesday. Our High School Marching Band did such an AWESOME job during their first Football Game together!
