My son Alan is graduating this year, so I will be stepping down as coordinator of social media, a role I have done for the past two years. The social media coordinator puts emails from the Band Boosters and the band director on the band website, and on Facebook and Twitter. It is easy, and I will show you how to do it. Mrs Rosin also knows how, and is actually the Website guru, so she can help. All you need are a computer and an Internet connection.
If you would like to learn how to do this, please contact Vicki Schneider at email@example.com or contact me if you have questions.
The social media coordinator is always in the know and one of the first to know! Here is your opportunity to be that one.

Reminder....The Can and Bottle Drive is this Saturday, May 17, from 9:00- 3:00. This event will be held rain or shine. (We will, however, cancel if the weather becomes unsafe or if we have thunderstorms.)
We are still in need of parents to drive to make the event successful. Even an hour or two is helpful!
If you have questions, please email Danna Sturm at email@example.com
I know we are not even done with this year, so why think about the next year already? Every year as we approach graduation we see that we will need some new leaders in many roles. Some of you may have helped out with something, and now you are ready to become the LEADER for the task.
Here are the positions we need to fill.
Parent Volunteer Coordinator - Contacts parents for help when needed by the director or Booster team; communication central for volunteer needs.
Webmaster/Social Media Leader - Updates website (using Weebly), Facebook and Twitter with communications from directors and Band Booster leaders.
Uniform Team Leader - This role is changing due to the new uniforms. Works with the Parent Volunteer Coordinator to identify parents to help with fitting and hemming. Pre-season each student needs to be fitted for a marching uniform and concert uniform. Uniforms will be hemmed only; no alterations will be made to the coats. The Marching Uniform will remain in the bandroom tagged for the student. They will check it out and in for each game, per Miss Kelsey. We need and additional 2 to 3 parents for both check-out and check-in of uniforms, along with the Uniform Leader, for this to run smoothly. If for some reason the uniform needs to be cleaned during the season, the Uniform Leader will take it to the local cleaner and return it prior to the next game. The dry cleaner will bill the Band Boosters. At the end of the season the Uniform Leader or someone delegated by the Leader will take all the uniforms to the dry cleaners for season-end cleaning. They will then be picked up and brought back to the school and stored in the uniform room for the next season.
During Marching Band Season
Home Football Game Leader - Organizes the parents who signed up to provide food, water and ice donations, and place seat covers for each game.
Here are more ways you can support the band program:
During Concert Band Season
The better organized the Boosters are for next year, the more smoothly it will be. Everyone NEEDS to sign up for something. "Many hands make light work."
The election of new Band Booster officers for the 2014 -2015 school year is coming and we need to know who would like to put their name on the ballot. If you would like to be a part of the Band Booster Executive Board, or would like to nominate someone, please submit the name to firstname.lastname@example.org by May 10th. Please do not nominate a person unless they have agreed to the position and the time commitment each role requires.
We need nominees for the following positions :
President - The duties of the President shall be to oversee all activities of the organization and to appoint committee chairpersons as needed. The president will also establish an agenda for each meeting; run meeting as per agenda; and delegate responsibilities such as finding event coordinators and parent volunteers.
Vice President - The duties of the Vice President shall be to assist the President with delegation of responsibilities; correspond with the Parent Volunteer Coordinator; “check-in” with event coordinators on progress, and report to others on the Executive Board.
Treasurer - The duties of the Treasurer shall be to keep track of all band account transactions; write checks for expenses; deposit money in the bank; update the Executive Board on the status and balance of account; keep accurate records of student accounts; clearly report on budget, expenses, shortages and overages; and assist in planning budgets for the Band Boosters.
Secretary - The duties of the Secretary shall be to take minutes and email minutes so they can be posted on the band website; compile lists of parent email addresses; keep parent emails up to date as information is given; assist the leadership team with all means of communication; and promote the band in print and social media as much as possible.
Once all names are collected you will receive an email of how you will be able to place your vote. Voting will be completed by the next Booster meeting on May 21st. The new board members will start their roles in June 2014 and continue through May 2015.

Our meeting for this month's band meeting on Wednesday, March 12th, will be a moved to the High School band room at 5:30 pm because, with the arrival of the new uniforms, we are going to be doing a bit of work for this booster meeting.
Over the weekend Larry and I spent some time in the band room doing some organizing. We got the uniforms in the room but still need to get the hats/shakos done. So we will be working on getting the hats/shakos unpacked and in the band room.
I am hoping to get this done the first hour and then go into the rest of the meeting, which will include the following:
We will still adjourn the meeting at 7:30 pm or as close to it as possible.

Our Evening of Jazz is fast approaching and we need some help. We have an amazing line-up of professional jazz performers coming to perform for the evening. The MS and HS Jazz bands will also be performing.
Outside of great music we have a silent auction at the event. What we are looking for are items that can be put in the silent auction. Who do you know who could donate a service or item to the auction? Do you have a vacation home, timeshare or service that you would be willing to donate for the auction?
Things to think of:
If you have an item or service to donate, contact Nancy Deal at 517-281-0562. She is the team leader on this event and needs our support. You can also email Vicki Schneider at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will make sure she gets the information.

Even though we have had school closings this week, the high school band is still hosting the All School Party this Friday. Please tell your friends that the Middle School All School Party is Friday night from 7:00 to 10:00 pm in the high school. Students will have fun with the pool, open gym, guitar hero, dancing and the all time favorite Karaoke and Tunes by T on the dance floor.
We need help to make this a fun, successful night for everyone. We are still looking for about five parent chaperones. If you can chaperone, please contact Carolyn McLaughlin at williamston email@example.com.
We still need donations of pop. If we have not received the donations, we will have to purchase it on Friday before the party.
Also Carolyn is looking to pass the baton to another middle school parent for next year. Carolyn's daughter will be in high school next year. If the All School Party is an event you would be interested in being a team leader for, please let us know.
Happy New Year Everyone! I wanted to share with you some GREAT NEWS.
We've mailed the check to pay for the new marching band uniforms. This is a HUGE ACCOMPLISHMENT FOR THE BAND PROGRAM. I want to take time to thank everyone who supported the fundraiser. Whether you worked at the site, did pick ups, donated food or drinks or invited your friends and neighbors to bring scrap, THANK YOU!!!
I especially want to thank the SCRAP METAL TEAM. Without them giving of their time and talent we would not have been this successful: DAVE BAKER, CHUCK BAKER, LARRY SCHNEIDER, CAROL & PAT REWIAKO, JEFF SHANE, KATHY BAKER AND ALICIA CURTISS. ALSO A SPECIAL THANKS TO MR. THOMPSON AND MR CAMPBELL, COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHO REALLY WENT THE EXTRA MILE TO HELP OUT OUR BAND.
I want all of you to know the amazing task we have completed and what this means going forward.
In total we have funded $21,620 towards new uniforms and the weather parkas. This is only marching uniforms, Ms. Kelsey is looking at color guard uniform possibilities.
We still will be doing fundraising for the uniform fund. The uniform fund is not just for marching uniforms. We still have color guard uniforms to buy, and of course there will be other expenses for marching/color guard uniforms. We also need to update our concert uniforms so we can fit the entire band; we fell short in skirts this year. Plus there are other expenses for uniform maintenance that we will need to support. We have made a commitment to the school board that we will maintain a growing uniform fund to support the next generation of band members' need for new uniforms.
I am looking forward to working with all of you in 2014.
