The Memorial Day Parade is fast approaching (May 26th) and it is finally getting warm! To keep the students cooled off and hydrated, we need bottled water for after the parade and volunteers to distribute the water.
We have around 230 students in both middle school and high school combined, so that's around 9-10 cases of water. Details will follow about drop off. If you will be attending the parade, please walk down and help pass out the water bottles to our wonderful students! Thanks. Laurie Hereza and Tracy Wennberg High school band members need to report to the Community Center (next to the football field) on Monday, May 26th, at 9:40 am. Students who need to get their instruments from the band room should plan to do so between 8:30 and 9:00 am. Students may also pick up their instruments to take home Friday, May 23rd, after school. Please do not bring cases to the Community Center.
The parade will begin at 10:00 am and concludes with a ceremony at the bridge. High school band members will be dismissed after the bridge ceremony. Students should plan to wear their green band performance t-shirt, black band shorts, short black socks, and black marching shoes. Please, no hats or sunglasses. Please make sure to hydrate properly and wear sunblock! Water will be provided for the students after the parade and before the bridge ceremony. Please let me know if you have questions. Thanks. Lynn Kelsey We will be having our second drumline help session on Tuesday, May 6th from 6:30-8:00 pm at the high school band room. Any student who plans to audition to be on the drumline for fall 2014 should plan to attend.
We will be working with Cody Edgerton, an MSU music education major who was also the center snare for MSU this past season. Please let me know if you have questions. Thanks. Lynn Kelsey Below is information regarding a summer camp offered at MSU for students interested in furthering their skill in color guard and marching percussion. This is also the camp that the 2014-2015 drum majors for the high school band will attend. Please let me know if you have questions.

The camp has been recognized nationally for its excellence in the instruction of drum majors, color guard performers, and percussionists. The instructional staff has taught and performed extensively at the collegiate and drum corps levels. MSU Performing Arts Marching Band Auxiliary Camp will challenge all participants, no matter the level of their expertise. The instructor-to-student ratio assures individualized attention throughout the clinic. The typical daily schedule looks like: http://pac.music.msu.edu/schedule.html The 2014 dates are:

This group will rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 6:00-8:00 pm in the high school band room. Cody Fry, one of our high school drumline instructors, will be running these rehearsals.
Our next rehearsal is this coming Wednesday, January 15th. Students should plan to enter the high school at the main entrance and then take a left down the hall to the band room. These rehearsals will focus on developing musicianship and technique for marching snare drum, tenor drum, bass drum and crash cymbals. Although this is mainly for percussion students, any band member who is interested may participate. Students should plan to bring drumsticks to the rehearsals. Thanks, Lynn Kelsey On Wednesday, January 15th, the high school band will be performing at the home wrestling match in the new gym. This will be with marching/pep band instruments. No uniforms are needed.
:00Report time to the band room is 5:30 pm. The match begins at 6 pm. We will be performing the national anthem and then "rah rah" cheers throughout. According to Coach Weber the match should be over around 7:30 pm. Please let me know if you have questions. Thanks. Lynn Kelsey Happy New Year Everyone! I wanted to share with you some GREAT NEWS.
We've mailed the check to pay for the new marching band uniforms. This is a HUGE ACCOMPLISHMENT FOR THE BAND PROGRAM. I want to take time to thank everyone who supported the fundraiser. Whether you worked at the site, did pick ups, donated food or drinks or invited your friends and neighbors to bring scrap, THANK YOU!!! I especially want to thank the SCRAP METAL TEAM. Without them giving of their time and talent we would not have been this successful: DAVE BAKER, CHUCK BAKER, LARRY SCHNEIDER, CAROL & PAT REWIAKO, JEFF SHANE, KATHY BAKER AND ALICIA CURTISS. ALSO A SPECIAL THANKS TO MR. THOMPSON AND MR CAMPBELL, COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHO REALLY WENT THE EXTRA MILE TO HELP OUT OUR BAND. I want all of you to know the amazing task we have completed and what this means going forward. In total we have funded $21,620 towards new uniforms and the weather parkas. This is only marching uniforms, Ms. Kelsey is looking at color guard uniform possibilities. GOING FORWARD We still will be doing fundraising for the uniform fund. The uniform fund is not just for marching uniforms. We still have color guard uniforms to buy, and of course there will be other expenses for marching/color guard uniforms. We also need to update our concert uniforms so we can fit the entire band; we fell short in skirts this year. Plus there are other expenses for uniform maintenance that we will need to support. We have made a commitment to the school board that we will maintain a growing uniform fund to support the next generation of band members' need for new uniforms. I am looking forward to working with all of you in 2014. Vicki Schneider |
