Our Evening of Jazz is fast approaching and we need some help. We have an amazing line-up of professional jazz performers coming to perform for the evening. The MS and HS Jazz bands will also be performing.
Outside of great music we have a silent auction at the event. What we are looking for are items that can be put in the silent auction. Who do you know who could donate a service or item to the auction? Do you have a vacation home, timeshare or service that you would be willing to donate for the auction? Things to think of:
If you have an item or service to donate, contact Nancy Deal at 517-281-0562. She is the team leader on this event and needs our support. You can also email Vicki Schneider at [email protected] and I will make sure she gets the information. How else can you help? I don't have specific information regarding this year's prices, but last year they were advertised as the following: Prices were: $10 adults, $20 family, $6 students/seniors, children under 5 and seniors with HIP free. Lynn Kelsey Dear Band Parents,
We are including a flyer about our upcoming mattress sale to be held on Sunday, March 9, from noon to 5:00 pm at the high school. This is a great way to help the bands. Please help us spread the word about this event to anyone you know. Put flyers up at work. Hand them out to neighbors. Tell your friends and family. There will be more details soon, but there are opportunities for students to earn extra money by referring friends and family. Thanks! Lynn Kelsey and Melanie Rosin Anyone interested in helping with the Evening of Jazz event that will take place March 28, we will have a meeting this Wednesday, February 5th, at 6:00 PM in the high school band room.
If you are not able to attend the meeting but still would like to be part of the committee, please contact Nancy Deal at 517-281-0562. This is a wonderful event for our community and students. Please consider helping out. The fee for the piano accompaniment for solos (or for any ensemble with a piano part) this year is $50.00. The Band Boosters are going to cover half of this amount. Families should plan to pay the accompanist $25.00 by this Friday.
The accompanist's name is Rachel Baljeu. Checks should be made out directly to her. Cash is also acceptable. It would be nice to include a Thank You note as well with your payment. Again, please plan to take care of this by Friday, February 7th. Thanks. Lynn Kelsey Attached is the schedule of times for the District Solo and Ensemble Festival at Haslett High School on Saturday, February 8th. Our next rehearsal is this coming Wednesday, January 15th. Students should plan to enter the high school at the main entrance and then take a left down the hall to the band room. These rehearsals will focus on developing musicianship and technique for marching snare drum, tenor drum, bass drum and crash cymbals. Although this is mainly for percussion students, any band member who is interested may participate. Students should plan to bring drumsticks to the rehearsals. Thanks, Lynn Kelsey On Wednesday, January 15th, the high school band will be performing at the home wrestling match in the new gym. This will be with marching/pep band instruments. We need help to make this a fun, successful night for everyone. We are still looking for about five parent chaperones. If you can chaperone, please contact Carolyn McLaughlin at williamston [email protected]. We still need donations of pop. If we have not received the donations, we will have to purchase it on Friday before the party. Also Carolyn is looking to pass the baton to another middle school parent for next year. Carolyn's daughter will be in high school next year. If the All School Party is an event you would be interested in being a team leader for, please let us know. Thanks for all of your help and support of this fantastic band program! Laurie Hereza & Tracy Wennberg Happy New Year Everyone! I wanted to share with you some GREAT NEWS.
We've mailed the check to pay for the new marching band uniforms. This is a HUGE ACCOMPLISHMENT FOR THE BAND PROGRAM. I want to take time to thank everyone who supported the fundraiser. Whether you worked at the site, did pick ups, donated food or drinks or invited your friends and neighbors to bring scrap, THANK YOU!!! I especially want to thank the SCRAP METAL TEAM. Without them giving of their time and talent we would not have been this successful: DAVE BAKER, CHUCK BAKER, LARRY SCHNEIDER, CAROL & PAT REWIAKO, JEFF SHANE, KATHY BAKER AND ALICIA CURTISS. ALSO A SPECIAL THANKS TO MR. THOMPSON AND MR CAMPBELL, COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHO REALLY WENT THE EXTRA MILE TO HELP OUT OUR BAND. I want all of you to know the amazing task we have completed and what this means going forward. In total we have funded $21,620 towards new uniforms and the weather parkas. This is only marching uniforms, Ms. Kelsey is looking at color guard uniform possibilities. GOING FORWARD We still will be doing fundraising for the uniform fund. The uniform fund is not just for marching uniforms. We still have color guard uniforms to buy, and of course there will be other expenses for marching/color guard uniforms. We also need to update our concert uniforms so we can fit the entire band; we fell short in skirts this year. Plus there are other expenses for uniform maintenance that we will need to support. We have made a commitment to the school board that we will maintain a growing uniform fund to support the next generation of band members' need for new uniforms. I am looking forward to working with all of you in 2014. Vicki Schneider |
